Art Enables is having a yard sale! All the classic yard sale ephemera - homeware, t-shirts, old records, books, furniture, and more - has been made into functional art by the Art Enables artists. Co-curated by Art Enables resident artist and yard sale expert Eileen Schofield, this not-to-be-missed show promises totally unique items you won't find in any other home or yard.

“I go to yard sales on Saturdays. I’ve been doing that every Saturday I can for years. That’s my favorite thing to do. I always want to get out of the house and find a yard sale. I go with my housemates when it’s nice weather outside. I pick up DVDs sometimes, books, anything I like. I like to look around and see people’s dog babies that they bring. I like to look at other things like Christmas trees and decorations, even if I don’t buy them. If I have three or four dollars or a lot of dollars, I can spend some. My friends tell me not to spend too much, and it’s a good place to go when you want to buy stuff, because it’s the only place that has stuff for not a lot of money. I love Fred Sanford, and I got 2 DVDs of him at a yard sale. I watch him every day with my housemates. He’s so funny.

I’m an expert on yard sales, I know what they have. I decided what should go in this one. A lot of different things are in it. I’m proud of this. My friends at Art Enables made me a yard sale! The things in it look beautiful. They’re so beautiful, and nice, and colorful. We made things different by painting on dishes, shirts, and other things like that. We turned it into artwork. People should look at it and think about it. They’re going to say “Eileen, did you paint this?” and I’ll say, “Yeah, I painted that and my friends helped me!” I want to invite everybody to come and see it and buy this stuff. People can come and look at this yard sale, and they can feel joyful about it.” - Eileen Schofield

Eileen Schofield is a positive and gregarious personality in the studio. She values the community at Art Enables, and is always talking with her fellow artists about their work and welcoming guests to the gallery. She uses markers to draw her bold, joyous, and color-dense compositions, often choosing flowers, animals, food, houses, and human characters as her subjects. She likes to experiment on wood and other nontraditional surfaces, too. Eileen has always loved to make art, especially for others. She loves that her work can make other people as happy as it makes her. In her free time, she enjoys going to yard sales, spending time with friends, and making colorful candles that she gifts to people in her life.
