The Washington Project for the Arts (WPA) is a nonprofit organization that supports artist-driven projects and fosters experimentation, collaboration, and community within the Washington, DC arts ecosystem. Earlier this month, Art Enables was pleased to partner with the WPA on a collaborative painting workshop connected to One Stroke at a Time, a WPA exhibition exploring creativity, connection, and healing through shared mark-making.
Hosted at Art Enables and led by WPA artists-in-residence Lorenzo Piero Holder III and Dr. Vicenzio Holder-Perkins, the workshop invited participants to work in pairs, creating paintings through an exchange of brushstrokes that allowed unexpected images and ideas to emerge.

Lorenzo and Vicenzio's art practice grew out of an experimental therapeutic approach developed during Dr. Perkins' recovery from a major stroke in 2018. Through the workshop, participants experienced the same spirit of creativity, connection, and collaboration that inspired the artists' work. Several resident Art Enables artists attended the workshop and enjoyed meeting and creating alongside new friends.
The paintings created during the workshop were featured in a special installation at WPA, culminating in a public reception celebrating the project and its participants. Art Enables is grateful for the opportunity to partner with WPA to foster meaningful connections, strengthen our creative community, and bring people together through the power of art.
