Maurice Barnes Designs 2025 ReadyDC Calendar, Highlighting Inclusion and Accessibility

Art Enables is thrilled to celebrate the creativity of Maurice Barnes, whose work was commissioned for the 2025 ReadyDC Calendar. This collaboration with ReadyDC—a preparedness campaign launched by the Executive Office of the Mayor and administered by DC’s Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency (HSEMA)—showcases the incredible intersection of art, accessibility, and community engagement.

Known for his vibrant use of colored pencils and pastels, meticulous attention to detail, and expressive, often humorous illustrations, Maurice created 13 original drawings for the calendar. Each piece reflects his unique artistic voice while emphasizing the critical importance of making emergency preparedness resources inclusive and accessible to all, regardless of physical abilities, language barriers, or other challenges.

This project highlights the power of partnerships between local government, community organizations, and artists, and we are proud to see Maurice’s work at the heart of such an impactful initiative. Over a thousand calendars have been printed and distributed through the Mayor’s Holiday Celebration and shared with key organizations such as Home Care Partners, So Others Might Eat (SOME), and the DC Council.
