LOST SUMMER MIXTAPE

Art Enables is pleased to present the online exhibition LOST SUMMER MIXTAPE during our COVID-19-induced closure. While we can’t share physical space with you this summer, we’re happy to collaborate with four thoughtful artists to share not only their artwork (Side A), but also small collections of reading, music, inspiration, and notes on their studio practice (Side B). Each artist’s page also includes a selection of the artist’s work paired with work by their favorite Art Enables artists.

Artists GEOFFREY ALDRIDGE, AMY BOONE-MCCREESH, BECCA KALLEM, and CURTIS MILLER each use texture, surface, and playful color to touch on themes of history, perception, class, identity, and culture. Each artist leverages the pre-existing expectations of their medium and subject matter to question our understanding of both. Traditional presentations of space and content are shuffled and re-built here. Recognizable fragments of reality are smudged, abstracted, or made hyper-real through context, and the de-stabilization is seductive.

For most of us, the summer of 2020 continues to be as strange and disorienting as the first half of the year. Much remains uncertain; but, in the meantime: we made you a really cool mixtape.
