Wish You Were Here: Gathering

Apr 06 - Apr 12

We’re pleased to present the “Wish You Were Here” series of mini online exhibitions. In lieu of being with us at our studio and gallery during our closure, we’re bringing more Art Enables to you at home. Each themed collection features work by three of Art Enables talented resident artists, and 100% of sale proceeds from this affordably-priced work will go directly to our artists during this closure.

During this time of social distancing, many of us have gathering—or the lack thereof—on our minds. This collection of work by Helen Lewis, Raymond Lewis, and Michael Schaff is full of gathering and clustered forms. Birds, flowers, and shapes crowd together in Helen’s energetic watercolor paintings. Michael draws complex scenes where figures reveal themselves amid sketchy storms of motion. The lines that carefully map Raymond’s mixed media works are a congregation in themselves, depicting groups of sea captains, horses, and surfers.

Helen’s artwork is steady and calm, much like her spirit. She began her artistic journey as a fiber artist, but in the studio her medium of choice is watercolor. Often using flowers as her inspiration, her work is continuously bright, colorful, and engaging. See more of her work here.

Raymond, with his gentle and kind demeanor, creates pieces of art that are full of movement, life, and detail. His work is wide-ranging, featuring subjects such as sweeping landscapes, unbridled wildlife, and portraits of people, both known and unknown. Like Raymond himself, his work can be subtle and soft-spoken, with a lot going on beneath the surface. See more of his work here.

Michael frequently works with markers, color sticks, pastels and paint markers. “Scribbling,” though not often a term used to define an artistic style, is the most apt way of describing Michael’s technique. His style creates wonderfully dense surfaces that are sometimes exclusively abstract and sometimes representational of a scene or portrait. See more of his work here.
