Michael works almost exclusively with sharpies and pencils and paint markers. They are easy to hold and easy to control, and they allow him to create textures by .... scribbling. There is no other good word for the technique. But the result is a wonderfully dense surface that is sometimes exclusively color and texture and sometimes representational--a herd of cows, for example.
